Club Update (April 2008) - YSS is open to visitors, but with reduced facilities for
the moment. Phone or e-mail for details - you'll get a warm welcome ! Yorkshire Sun Society, better known as YSS, has one of the largest grounds of any British Sun Club. The 26 acres are home to a great variety of wild life; deer, badgers, foxes, squirrels and there are more rabbits than members, some so tame that they wait until you are almost on top of them before they move. Pheasants are everywhere, along with many other birds. The club was founded in 1932 on 11 acres of rented ground. When the grounds were purchased in 1944 an additional 15 acres was acquired. Up till June 2007, YSS boasted what we think are the best naturist facilities in the north. Then we were devastated by a massive flood, with our grounds under water for nearly a month, and all accommodation damaged. Since then we have worked hard to restore our accommodations, but also to refurbish the hub of the club i.e. the clubhouse. Christmas and New Year parties went ahead as planned with a great atmosphere. Another, much shorter, flood in January was a blow, but we're made of tough stuff at YSS and we have pushed ahead with our improvements, undeterred. Soon we will have our replacement heated undercover pool ready, which will be kept heated in the winter for all year round use to go along with our centrally heated club house with the Anniversary Bar and quiet room ; making YSS an attractive place for all kinds of people to be at any time of year. If nothing else, the hardships and toil of the past year have served to emphasise the camaraderie at the club. We love to socialise and working together for the good of the club is just one of the ways we do that. Visitors and prospective members may contact the club by:- Write to; P.O. Box No. 226, Beverley, HU17 0WA Phone ; Secretary - 0774 231 1143 Email ; yorkshiresun@msn.com To avoid disappointment we recommend contacting us by post at least a month before you wish to visit. We are a members club operated by member volunteers, not a commercial club. We have no paid staff to answer phones etc. |
